Joel Freeman’s Story
McKay came from humble origins, a local startup business founded in 1936 by Tom McKay in the small Northland town of Dargaville. 90 years down the road, it’s grown into the largest privately owned electrical firm in New Zealand, with its headquarters still located in Northland where it all began. Fast growing, constantly innovating, and chasing achievement, the company is now led by Lindsay Faithfull and has expanded across the North Island and into the South Island, spanning the whole of New Zealand as well as setting up a division in the USA.
Electrical Supervisor Joel Freeman coordinates critical infrastructure and renewable energy projects for the company. At McKay, he’s fully aligned with their values of innovation and achievement, and has worked on notable recent projects such as the Ruakākā Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and the Naumai Solar Farm.
